‘“The Oni” is my action thriller project, centered on cyberpunk future of Japan with a young vigilante assassin in a Yokai mask travel across the country, track down and seeks vengeance on the criminals, gangsters and shady businessmen who destroyed his childhood life.
The biggest major of creating The Oni is from films like Blade Runner, Ghost in the Shell, Shang-Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings and the John Wick series and only one show, Samurai Jack are the inspirations for this project.
It was originally a shorter final project for my intro to animation class at Columbia College Chicago in my freshman year. However, after two months of finishing the final production and finishing my freshman year, the whole footage was lost, someone literally hacked into my data. But I wanted to give the character and story another shot after abandoning the idea for two years since the incident.
